What Is DKIM Email Signing?

DKIM stands for DomainKeys Identified Mail. It is an email authentication protocol that uses encryption to allow recipients to verify that an email message truly came from the domain that it clams to have come from. It does that by checking the email signature against a TXT DNS record which contains a public key that corresponds to the private one stored in the DKIM server (where the keys are created and stored for verification).

It ensures that the person who set up the server that sent the message has access to the domain’s DNS server and is capable of creating TXT records in it (i.e.: ensure that the message truly came from the owner of the domain). Since actual spam messages usually contain counterfeit headers (faking the sender’s address, for instance), this verification process helps to avoid emails sent from the stores to the customers from being caught and automatically placed in their spam folders.

In order to avoid those issues, all outbound mail from our servers is checked for an existing DKIM DNS record and, if found, is successfully signed.

Configuration

To enable DKIM signing for your web store’s domain name, please contact our support team at support@commercebuild.com. They will supply you with a DNS TXT record to be added to your domain’s DNS records.

Alternatively, you can use noreply@commercebuild.com as the System From Address and System Reply To Address under /admin/msite/email.
